NOTD: Ruffian Manicure with Julep Kathleen and Julep Myrtle

So as we all know, it’s spring fashion week around the globe (aka New York and Europe) and for some reason lots of brands partner with nail polish companies to create new nail polish colours and looks for their runway. Not that I’m complaining.

One brand, Ruffian, developed a look called the Ruffian manicure which is just like a …reverse half-moon manicure? Does that make sense? Probably not. But the circles of the cuticles are meant to look like little moons. Here’s my rather classic take on it, featuring Julep Kathleen and Myrtle.

Needless to say, I like the really classic looks but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that. Julep Kathleen was a little bit annoying to apply because it didn’t dry completely smoothly due to the tiny glitter bits in it. Julep Myrtle applied like a dream and was basically one coat to perfection, smooth and pigmented.

Unfortunately, I’m not a huge fan of Myrtle’s brush for doing nail art. It’s wide and really good for just painting your nails, but doesn’t allow for the delicate precision that nail art usually requires for. If I had to do it over again, I probably would make the gold moons a little moony.

What do y’all think? Classic colours or something edgy and trendy?

Birchbox features a collaboration with Ruffian this month and will have a Ruffian crowd-sourced set coming in the boxes. Maybe I’ll try it with more daring colours in the near future.
