Sephora Holiday It Kits: In the Glow
For Sephora Beauty Insiders (Sephora’s member rewards program), this 2012 holiday season, if you made (or make) a purchase of or over $25 at Sephora, you could (and still can) enter the coupon code ITKIT at checkout to receive 1 of 3 Holiday It Kits for free. The 3 kits are themed 1) In the Glow, 2) Best in Classic, and 3) The Lasting Impression.
Today I’ll be reviewing the first It Kit: In the Glow. It features a rather large Sephora makeup tote, 2 perfumes, 1 mascara, 1 body lotion, 1 shower gel, 1 eyeshadow card (with 10 shadow samples), 1 dry oil mist (for hair), 1 eye brightener, and 1 gel cream moisturizer.
In addition to the Sephora makeup tote, this It Kit also features Stila In the Light eyeshadow palette, DKNY Be Delicious Eau So Intense eau de parfum spray, Escada Especially Escada eau de parfum, L’Occitane Cleansing and Soothing Shower Oil with Almond Oil, Alterna Bamboo Smooth Kendi Oil Dry Oil Mist, Philosophy Take A Deep Breath oil-free energizing oxygen gel cream moisturizer, St. Tropez One Night Only Instant Glow Body Lotion, bareMinerals Stroke of Light eye brightener in Luminous 1, and Lancôme Hypnôse Star mascara in 01 Noir Midnight.
This Stila In the Light eyeshadow palette card features samples of (left to right, top to bottom) Bare, Kitten, Bliss, Sunset, Sandstone, Bubbly, Gilded Gold, Luster, Night Sky, and Ebony. It also features two “how to” guides using the provided colours for two very different eyes: a cat eye and a sultry eye.
I’ve used Stila lip and skin products before, so it was nice to give their eyeshadows a spin. Honestly, I really like them. They’re light and easy to apply, and offer a nice range of glittery, subtle, and matte colours. This palette is particularly gorgeous. Perfect for use this holiday season. Nothing says elegant, sexy, and earthy like a smokey or gently glowing eye. Recommended.
Stila In the Light Palette retails at $39.00 USD but is advertised as boasting a $118 USD value.
DKNY Be Delicious Eau So Intense eau de parfum spray lives up to its name: it is definitely an intense smell, but in my experience, intense usually doesn’t equate pleasant. Like most of DKNY’s new scents, they’re fruit themed, Be Delicious and Be Delicious Eau So Intense seeming to mimic green apples. Intense does do this quite well, but whatever other notes they’re combining with the intensified apple note is actually causing me to sneeze. Literally. I’m sitting here sneezing after spraying only the tiniest bit on a sample card. The card is presently in the garbage and I can still smell it. Verdict? Not recommended. Unless you think breathing is overrated, then sure, pollute your senses.
DKNY Be Delicious Eau So Intense eau de parfum spray retails at $48.00 USD per oz.
Escada Especially Escada eau de parfum is also a fruity scent, but it contains a more tranquil top note of pear. The scent also has notes of rose and ylang ylang, giving it a sweet but subtle nature. Combine that with an underlying note of musk, and you actually have a pleasant scent mix. It’s strong but not too strong, elegant, feminine, and it also has a little bite, making it good for women ages 18-35, in my opinion. And if you’re older than 35 but still feel 29, rock on and give it a spritz. Verdict? Recommended.
Escada Especially Escada eau de parfum spray retails at $46.00 USD per oz.
L’Occitane Cleansing and Soothing Shower Oil with Almond Oil. My mother is a big fan of L’Occitane but I have limited experience with the brand. Nevertheless, I really did like this shower oil. Despite being an oil, it does lather, and (as one might expect) it leaves skin feeling clean without the dryness of residue usually left by gels and soaps. Skin doesn’t feel oily though, which is a plus. It has a very faint nutty smell but more than anything, it smells clean. Recommended.
L’Occitane Cleansing and Soothing Shower Oil retails at $24.00 USD for 8.4 oz.
Alterna Bamboo Smooth Kendi Oil Dry Oil Mist is a styling mist for hair. Simply apply while hair is wet or damp and style. This mist is supposed to limit frizz, enhance shine, preserve colour (if dyed), and protect hair from heated styling tools. In other words, it was made to make my life easier. I applied it after showering and then blow-dried and flat ironed my hair. I applied the mist to one side of my head and not the other. Result: I can both see and feel a noticeable difference. With the mist, my hair is silkier and shinier. It also isn’t slightly frizzing at the ends. Recommended.
Alterna Bamboo Smooth Kendi Oil Dry Oil Mist retails for $24.00 USD.
Philosophy Take A Deep Breath oil-free energizing oxygen gel cream moisturizer. Unfortunately, I did not have the time to review this product, but something tells me I have used it in the past. Nevertheless, a review cannot be provided at this time.
Philosophy Take A Deep Breath retails at $34.00 USD for 2 oz.
St. Tropez One Night Only Instant Glow Body Lotion. Prior to receiving this product, I had not previously heard of St. Tropez, but I usually have my head stuck in the sand, so a lot of life is hit or miss for me. Oh, Google tells me they’re a tanning product company – no wonder I hadn’t heard of them. Now the whole sand analogy is making me full dumb. Metaphorical sand, I swear.
I was actually surprised how dark this lotion was, but it somehow goes on near-clear. It just leaves the tiniest bit of bronzer and sparkle/glitter/shimmer/etc. The bronzer evens out really well, which impresses me. I’ve seen some pretty bad bronzer-gone-wrong-girls over the years. They always miss that one large noticeable spot they can’t see. Nevertheless, if this product is used sparingly, missing spots shouldn’t be a problem. Nice for a night out or fancy function. Overall, recommended.
St. Tropez One Night Only Instant Glow Body Lotion retails for $18.00 USD.
Lancôme Hypnôse Star mascara in 01 Noir Midnight. I’m a huge Lancome fan and this was one sample I didn’t have to open because I already own and use it all the time. Hypnôse is by far my favourite mascara on the market right now (Lancome also makes my favourite liquid eyeliner: Lancôme Artliner Precision Point EyeLiner in Smoke). So why is Hypnôse my favourite? It creates amazing volume, lengthens, doesn’t clump, and doesn’t flake. It meets all my mascara criteria, and if you want knockout lashes that don’t crack, itch or crust as the hours pass, this product is for you. Highly recommended.
Lancôme Hypnôse Star mascara retails for $28.00 USD.
bareMinerals Stroke of Light eye brightener in Luminous 1. Luminous 1 is their lightest shade and suggested for fair/pink individuals (which would be me). They offer 4 shades (Luminous 1-4), the darkest being for deep/golden skintones.
Not only was Luminous 1 a close match for me, it quickly blended into nothing, just giving my eye the perfect amount of shimmer and shine. It also helped alleviate the black “bags” under my eyes. I don’t actually have bags, but due to currently having dark violet/red hair and being blessed with skin that makes snow jealous, the skin beneath my eyes is pretty translucent. Thus dark circles. Joy. Nevertheless, Stroke of Light reduced their prominence – impressive. Overall, very recommended.
bareMinerals Stroke of Light retails at $22.00 USD for 0.18 oz.
