Sephora Free Party Favour Gift Bag

In honour of Sephora’s official launch of Sephora.ca and their October beauty giveaway + trip contest (which has since ended), by entering the code PARTY at checkout (for any purchase; this coupon has also since expired), Canadian customers received a free Party Favour Gift Bag. Mine just arrived in the mail this week, along with a slew of Xmas gifts for friends (I believe in serious beauty-gift pampering), so I thought I’d give you guys a sneak peak.

The Party Favour Gift Bag features six (6) products by Benefit, Ole Henriksen, Caudalie, Chloé, Stila, and Hourglass. Keep reading for more details!

The Sephora.ca Party Favour Gift Bag

The samples arrived in a very cute little tote – I’m just not sure how I could reuse it. I may pop a few must-need cosmetics in it and throw it in my gym bag. If anyone else has any smashing ideas, let me know! I’m open to suggestions.

Featuring Hourglass Film Noir mascara, Caudalie Vinexpert Firming Serum, Benefit The POREfessional pro balm, Stila Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer, Chloé eau de parfum, and Ole Henriksen Truth Serum.

This was one intense bag of samples, and good sized samples too, which led to much initial excitement. I’ve been eying Old Henriksen’s anti-aging products for a while, but they’re ridiculously expensive. Thus getting a 15 mL bottle was very unexpected.

But first, let’s move left to right.

Hourglass Film Noir full spectrum mascara in onyx

Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara in Onyx: I can’t actually review this mascara as I haven’t opened it yet. I currently have three mascaras I use (two blacks and one blue), and since mascara only has a 3 month shelf-life once opened, I won’t be opening this until one of my blacks bites the dust.

Nevertheless, the sample comes with 0.44 mL of liquid (0.15 oz). A full size product is 0.35 oz and priced at $33.00 CAD. I’ve never used Hourglass cosmetics before, so I cannot comment as to their quality versus cost, but this sample is still a penny-wise treat.

Sample value: ~$16.00 CAD

Caudalie Vinexpert Firming Serum

Caudalie Vinexpert Firming Serum can be applied to your face and neck, and works to restructure (build firmness and elasticity) while diminishing fine lines and wrinkles. So says the product guide. This serum is also free of parabens, sulfates, and phthalates (know you, what unsafe sex toys are made of [no lie]).

The sample has a very fine applicator, allowing for precision. The liquid is milky white, non-oily, and very lightly scented. It also goes on cool, giving skin a refreshed feeling. It’s hard for me to give a review as to its effectiveness as my skin is currently youthful and fine-line-free, and I’ve only used it twice. Nevertheless, I recommend it based on its hydrating properties.

I’ve said before and will say again that it is very wise to start your anti-aging routine whilst you’re still young (in your 20s) so you can hate yourself a little less when you’re 50. The better cared for your skin is while you’re young, the less damage you will incur over the decades. Also, consider all the money you’ll save down the road on anti-aging products, cosmetic surgeries, and botox (should your vanity be that extreme).

Sample is 0.7 mL (0.2 fl. oz.); regular product is 1 fl. oz. and sells for $88.00 CAD.

Sample value: $17.60 CAD

Benefit The POREfessional pro balm

Benefit The POREfessional is a minimizing pore balm. Simply wash your face, pat dry, and apply The POREfessional. The cream is slightly tinted (beige) and goes on lightly. It also isn’t oily or shiny, which is a plus. Sadly, I can’t say I saw any visible reduction of pores. Unless I was supposed to use the entire tube to get results, but that would make this product horribly expensive for a single wear. Once again, Benefit fails to impress me. Not recommended.

Edit: Feedback has informed me that I wasn’t specific enough about the use of this product. The POREfessional is a primer – you put it on and then apply your makeup (powder, foundation, etc.). I did do this, too, when testing it (I used both a loose powder by Maybelline and a foundation by CoverGirl) yet I still didn’t see any visible results.

Sample is 7.5 mL (0.25 fl. oz.); regular product is 0.75 fl. oz. and costs $33.00 CAD.

Sample value: $11.00 CAD

Stila Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer in Medium

Stila Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer in Medium: I really wish this sample was bigger because I love it. My only gripe is that I didn’t received Tone, which is a shade lighter than Medium. Still, very impressed with this product. It goes on easy, blends well, and does indeed moisturize. I really love it when products do what they’re supposed to (Benefit should take some notes). Recommended.

Swatch of Stila Sheer Color Tinted Moisturizer in medium

(It’s high-def photos like this that remind me that my even complexion isn’t really that even. Luckily human eyes aren’t as good as my camera’s lenses.)

The sample is 5 mL (0.17 fl. oz.); regular product is 1.7 fl. oz. and sells for $44.00 CAD.

Sample value: $4.40 CAD

Chloé Eau de Parfum

Chloé Eau de Parfum: You’ve probably smelt this before. Just walk into a cocktail party, hospital fundraiser, or special events gala. The scent has middle-aged successful woman written all over it (well, figuratively). It’s somehow soft like dried flowers and powder but packs a powerful punch to the nose, which may be the result of its cedarwood and lychee notes.

I like it, don’t get me wrong, but it seems a little… older than my 23 years. I’d also use it sparingly noting how strong it is. Still, I recommend checking it out.

The sample is 4 mL (0.13 fl. oz.); regular product is $60.00 CAD per ounce (1 fl. oz.).

Sample value: ~$7.80 CAD

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Collagen Booster

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Collagen Booster: As previously mentioned, I’ve been eying this anti-aging serum for a while because a) it has received great reviews and b) it’s formulated without parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, synthetic dyes, petrochemicals, phthalates, GMOs, and triclosan. In a nutshell, even if you have crazy-sensitive skin, this product shouldn’t bother you in the slightest.

I can’t comment as to how effective I’ve personally found it to be because a) I’m still young and b) I’ve been using it for only two days (not enough time to see results). The liquid is non-oily and more like a fine gel. It applies nicely, doesn’t have a harsh scent, and doesn’t leave skin feeling wet or shiny. So definitely recommended.

Sample is 15 mL (0.5 fl. oz.); regularly sells for $60.00 CAD per ounce (1 fl. oz.).

Sample value: $30.00 CAD

So the overall value of this free gift bag? Roughly $87.00 CAD – which is amazing and crazy and amazing. Thank-you Sephora!
